You don’t need to watch one of Ray Roman’s films to feel his energy and passion for the industry, but when you do, you’re likely to utter the word “awesome.” And if you do, you’re not alone – EventDV Magazine named Ray Roman Films one of the hottest and most influential studios in the world in both 2010 and 2011.
“I first started filming back in 2005 and quickly became obsessed with the fact that I was able to produce films with similar quality to that of actual feature films,” says Ray. “Our work has been recognized worldwide and we travel often to document weddings and special events around the globe.”
Q: What is it like filming an event at The Breakers?
A: The Breakers is the crème de la crème of wedding venues. When we have a couple that has chosen The Breakers as their wedding venue, we know right away that the visuals on film are going to be stunning. As a wedding and event filmmaker who has traveled the world documenting weddings, I can tell you the experience is second to none.
Q: Give us three of your favorite weddings must-dos.
A: 1. Run on time = Less Stress
2. Relax and enjoy = Beautiful imagery
3. Invest in a visual artist to film your special day = Amazing moments that will last a lifetime
Q: What is the most important reason your clients cite for choosing The Breakers?
A: Besides the stunning backdrops at The Breakers, the overall experience, attention to detail and service a client will receive is like no other venue I’ve ever encountered. From the moment you walk through the front doors of the hotel, the level of professionalism is immediately felt. Some of the most popular destinations rely solely on their venue and often neglect customer service. I always tell my clients who are considering The Breakers that the treatment they will receive will be like none other – they will truly feel like royalty throughout their stay.

Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
A: I’ve always been inspired by couples that have an amazing story to share. We’re often told how our films look like Hollywood features, which is quite amazing, considering the fact that these are not trained actors and there are no scripts or storyboards. The one element we always have, however, is a couple in love with a very unique story.
Q: How does The Breakers history and architecture inspire your cinematography?
A: The Breakers obviously boasts some of the most amazing architecture available for a wedding venue, but what truly sets it apart is the fact that there are so many different sides to the property. From the landscaped driveway that leads to its impressive fountain, to the magnificent paintings on the ceilings of the main lobby, to the flower-filled courtyards, graceful arches and loggias, it never seems to end. And I haven’t even mentioned the oceanfront oasis outside. It’s amazing how many times I can film at the Breakers, yet the resulting imagery always looks different. As I always say, it’s just one eye candy shot after another.
Q: What hot new trend do you see emerging for winter weddings? How about 2012?
A: Last year we filmed a “Winter Wonderland” wedding where they brought in winter themed Cirque Du Soleil performers and the ballroom design included dissipating snow machines (so the snow never reached the floor, but it seemed like it was snowing in the ballroom). The visuals were simply stunning.
Q: What’s the most important piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom?
A: 1. Hire a professional planner (at least day of the wedding) to make sure the day runs smooth. The last thing you (or a family member/friend) want is to be stressed on over small details. If you look upset and stressed during the day, this will almost certainly be reflected in photos and on film.
2. Do not be the last one to get your hair/makeup done. If you’re finished just a bit early and you have an extra 20-30 minutes to relax and get ready, it’s much better than running late. Remember this day will only happen once and all the time lost for photos/ cinema can never be recovered.
3. Relax and have the greatest time of your life. You’ve done all the planning, invited all the guests and now it’s your time to enjoy one of the best days of your life. Forget the weather, the small details and any other issues. I’ve had weddings where it rained, where the priest mispronounced the bride’s name and where the power went out. But if you watched any of these films, they all turned out beautiful because the brides remained calm and simply enjoyed their day.
Q: How does a wedding at The Breakers differ from those at other venues?
A: Besides the visual advantage that The Breakers has over most other venues, the level of professionalism and the treatment of its vendors is truly second to none. I am humbled and honored to be a part of The Breakers family.
